![]() ![]() But those are really relatively minor flaws, and more than made up for by the characters, the story, the graphics, the controls and the roleplaying elements. And as also noted, it's possible, through finding particularly good weapons and grinding your weapon skill, to make yourself boringly overpowered. It just feels like, for as hard as they obviously tried, it falls a bit short of what it could have been. As you noted, the weakest part of it is probably the music, but even that is actually good. I'd say that it's an extremely good game all in all, but it's not really that any one aspect of it stands out - more it's that everything about it is at least good. It's an odd sort of game in a way though. And in the mark of a truly great video game, when I finished it, I immediately restarted it and played it through again. ![]() Then I happened to give it another shot maybe six months ago or so and managed to make it further, and somewhere along the way it just hooked me, and I couldn't put it down. I probably started it three or four times over the years, but never really got sucked into it. Just as you say though, it takes a while to get going. It's potentially in my top 10 SNES games and definitely in my top 20. Once it gets going, its one of the best action epgs ive ever played. At first money is scarce and not too many weapons are available to you. Its honestly generic synth techno, and orchestral pieces, that dont come close to the level of Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. Although there is a sequel to Leynos for Saturn (and Ive heard that its very good), when it came time to make a Valken sequel they made a. They got Mitsuda and Umatsu to compose the music, and it doesnt seem like it at all. Front Mission - Gun Hazard, is a mecha sidescroller, and spiritual successor to the Assault Suits series (of which you may recognize Assault Suits Valken/Cybernator and Assault Suits Leynos/Target Earth. The music is honestly underwhelming for the people working on it. It helps that the graphics are also top notch, moving your mech is so cathartic. Giant mechs, explosions, floating around shooting, stuff like that. Genki relishes the shift in balance towards a more action orientated approach reminiscent of the cracking Cybernator in the mecha. Then the actual fighting pretty much plays like Cybernator. Theres so much to play around with, its very detailed. You spend a good amount of time in menus, customizing your mech, exploring different weapon combinations, buying ammo and new weapons, etc. Some of the scenes are genuinely shocking and are presented pretty well. ![]() This kind of stuff being on a SNES cartridge is incredible. Not many characters are just evil for being evil. People kill each other for survival, they kill for revenge for the death of their loved ones, etc. The main appeal of the story is its exploration of the gray area of war. The main thing that caught me off gaurd is the story. I'm making this post because I can't find many threads of people talking about it.
